Hollywood Bets awards bursaries to MUT students

The Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT has established a partnership with Hollywood Bets, who have since awarded seven MUT students with bursaries. The bursary will cover costs for the Advanced Diploma in Information Technology next year. Dr Vikash Jugoo, the Head of ICT, said the opportunity will open doors for students and introduce to the various fields they can branch into with an ICT qualification. Read more here.
School to run more smoothly

TEACHING and learning is expected to improve for teachers and pupils at Asimthande School for the Blind. The school in Osizweni, Newcastle, received a donation from Hollywoodbets last week. The betting company gave them five Braille machines, a fire extinguisher, a grass trimming machine and a photocopying machine which also prints and scans. Read more here.

Soccer teams vie for pre-season cup

Eight soccer teams will participate in the Hollywoodbets Pre-Season Cup that is being hosted by Mamu Community Development. Hollywoodbets upskill unemployed people living with disabilities

Twelve people with various disabilities, who have been struggling to find employment due to lack of training and opportunities, were thrilled to be given a leg up by local bookmaker, Hollywoodbets. The company personally selected them to be part of an NQF Level 1 learnership that will train them in the area of hygiene and cleaning, while they will be hosted at the Hollywoodbets head office in Umhlanga to complete the practical component of their learnership. In commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day, the Dolphins picked Nyuswa Senior Primary School, located at the Valley of 1,000 Hills in Botha’s Hill, as this year’s recipients of ’67 Minutes for Mandela’. The club first started training players in 2010 with the aim to keep youngsters off the streets and to also unify the community through sports. In February the Edith Benson children’s home in Sherwood experienced disaster as fire destroyed the entire babies home that housed 57 children between the ages of three months and five years. Thankfully, due to regular fire drills by the staff, no-one was hurt! At the time a call went out to all Durban residents and businesses to show their support by donating goods or money to help them in this time of need. Read more.

Since 1992 Kid’s Haven has been caring for abused, neglected and abandoned children. A few weeks ago the Estcourt Hospice Association decided that the old house they operate from needs a revamp in some parts. Thus far, generous donations have funded most of the materials needed. Estcourt Hollywood Bets donated R10 000 towards paint and maintenance of the building. Primer, roof paint, three bathroom scales and wall paint were purchased with the money. Read more.

KAMGELO Community Centre is an organisation that has been doing incredible work within their community for the past five years. Its members care for people who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Workers visit beneficiaries in their homes and help with cooking, cleaning and schoolwork. The Hollywoodbets Alberton team decided to pay Kamgelo a visit and show their support. They delivered new uniforms for the care workers, stationery, a computer, doors, tiles, ceiling panels and a whiteboard that will be used for meetings. Read more.

The Hollywoodbets, near Lenasia Station, supported Meadowlands Harmony that practices at the Meadowlands Zone B grounds, in Soweto. Club staff members have been working with the youth in their community for the past six years. Meadowlands Harmony was started to help educate kids in the area through football, and to help keep them off the streets. With over 78 players between the ages of 8 and 19 years the club appreciates all sponsorships. The club’s Chairperson is thankful for Hollywoodbets’ support. “This donation has helped to bring about change.
