Hollywoodbets Supplies Essential Food to Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng during COVID-19 Pandemic

Food supplies for Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng thanks to Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project

Since 2000, Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng’s main purpose has been to create a safe environment for vulnerable people within the community of Olivienhoutbosch including orphaned children as well as children from abusive households and destitute women. Since the announcement of the COVID-19 pandemic, they have needed support to uphold some of their programmes such as their feeding programme. Leading bookmaker Hollywoodbets therefore chose to assist the organisation by making a R12 500 donation to them. This enabled them to support 67 of their beneficiaries.

The donation of food supplies was made possible thanks to a recent R1 million pledge that was made courtesy of a collaboration between the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse foundation. This initiative was labelled the “Brighter Future” project which aimed to assist 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa, who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dimphonyana offers various services to young people including functioning as a Children’s Home, providing homework programmes, Early Childhood Development, skills development and a community food garden as well as a children’s church.

The “Brighter Future” project has enabled the organisation to continue doing their essential community work.

“Thanks to this donation from Hollywoodbets, we are able to continue our vital feeding programme during the period of the national lockdown. The food supplies went towards meals for our children in our home and families who normally rely on us and our feeding programme. We are grateful to have had this support as it was needed more than ever,” Shalate Ngobani, Managing Director at Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng.

Gauteng Area Manager for Hollywoodbets, Lorraine Tshabalala, explained that this was a necessary and important organisation for the company to include in their “Brighter Future” project. “Vulnerable children and families rely on this organisation even under normal circumstances. The recent impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that they have relied on their assistance more than ever. We were thrilled to make this donation which went towards supporting their ongoing feeding scheme that they offer. So far, they have done a wonderful job in the community and we are glad that we can help them continue with their work,” said Tshabalala.
