This organisation was established in 1997 with the aim of empowering and enabling vulnerable children, youth and communities to unlock their potential and develop skills towards a sustainable future. During this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important for organisations, like Khulisa, to continue doing their good work. In saying this, leading bookmaker, Hollywoodbets, chose to show their support by making a R12 500 donation to the organisation, which allowed the to donate 35 food parcels to families in need.

The “Brighter Future” project came about after the company announced that they will be joining up with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation to pledge R1 million as a relief response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These funds were used to help 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa who were in need of assistance during the national lockdown.

Khulisa currently work within 400 communities across South Africa and partners with the likes of national and local government departments, schools, correctional facilities, community leaders, private companies and academic institutions in order to carry out their social work. They are currently running a “COVID-19 Peace Making Programme” which will assist those communities in dire need at these times. The donation from Hollywoodbets went to supporting this programme that they are running.

“Thanks to this donation from Hollywoodbets, we are able to enhance our partnership with stakeholders by bettering the social functioning of families. We were able to provide 35 families in the community of Elmalahleni with food parcels. These are families who look after young children and unemployed youth,” explained the Manager of Khulisa Social Solutions, Ronald Mukwangwariwa.

According Welsh Mukombachoto, Regional Manager for Hollywoodbets Mpumalanga, it was an easy decision for the company to show their support to Khulisa. “As a result of their COVID-19 programme, Khulisa was seeking for help and donations from companies to support their initiative. They are doing a fantastic job in seeing to the needs of so many vulnerable communities. This made it necessary or us to make the well-deserved donation,” he explained.
