Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project Provides 50 essential food parcels for Emthonjeni Satellite 2
Emthonjeni Satellite 2 offers care to the orphaned and vulnerable children in the community of Sonderwater. They serve cooked meals to 300 beneficiaries as well as assisting them with homework and providing support groups to the children in their care. NPOs and NGOs rely on the support of the public in order to function. During a time like this where there is so much need all around due to the COVID-19 pandemic it is proving difficult to procure funding in the traditional ways. Hollywoodbets decided to make a R12 500 donation to Emthonjeni Satellite 2 to help them make food parcel donations to 50 households.
This donation is a result of the leading bookmaker’s recent announcement that they will pledge R1 million to 60 NPOS and NGOS around South Africa during this tough time through the “Brighter Future” Project, a joint venture between the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation.
Project Manager of Emthonjeni Satellite 2, Malefu Mosia, is grateful that the organisation can continue to support their community thanks to this donation.
“Most of our beneficiaries are left without an income at the moment. This is causing them a lot of stress because of the lockdown we are experiencing. These funds have helped us greatly because we can now carry on giving back to our communities,” she said.
According to Lorraine Tshabalala, Gauteng Area Manager for Hollywoodbets, this was an easy decision to make because the company believes in giving back to organisations that make a difference in their communities through the annual Hollywoodbets My Community Programme. “This is the second time that we have shown our support to Emthonjeni Satellite 2. The organisation does a fantastic job by caring for the youth and leading them on the right path for a successful future. Hollywoodbets recognises these great efforts and will happily continue to show their support,” she explained.
