Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation reach out to Emthonjeni Satellite during COVID-19 Pandemic

Emthonjeni Satellite assists 41 families thanks to Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project

Emthonjeni Satellite is an organisation that offers psycho-social support to vulnerable children by offering support groups and after-school care services. The centre was first established in 2005, and cares for children between six and 18 years of age. One of the activities carried out by the organisation is a feeding programme which provides cooked meals to the children on a daily basis. Many of these young people rely on these daily meals which has become a problem because of the national lockdown. Popular bookmaker Hollywoodbets chose to show their support for the centre’s feeding scheme by making a R12 500 donation which went to providing food parcels to 41 households.

The company recently announced a collaboration between their Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation. The duo created a “Brighter Future” project where R1 million was pledged to support 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine South African provinces as a relief response to the national pandemic.

This will be the second time that Hollywoodbets has supported Emthonjeni Satellie. Previous donations included school shoes and gardening equipment.

“This organisation assists the most vulnerable within the community. These are mostly the elderly and children. They need to continue providing meals as per their feeding scheme because many of their beneficiaries rely on these daily meals so the sudden stop may have caused stress for many households. We were more than happy to assist Emthonjeni again this time round and we are glad to know that these food parcels have bought relief to the recipients,” explained Lorraine Tshabalala, Area Manager for Hollywoodbets Gauteng.

Mavis Nzima, Administrator of the organisation, was grateful to Hollywoodbets for their continuous support. “This donation has allowed us to support 41 households in our community of Evaton. Most of these homes have growing children as well as elderly family members living in them who need good nutritional meals. It is wonderful that Hollywoodbets has reached out to us for a second time, especially during the national lockdown,” she said.
